2022TP: Thread Painting



Thread Painting.   Use a combination of thread colors to produce a unique piece of artwork all your own and suitable for framing.  Using various colors of thread as your medium, Cinda teaches the simple & fun technique of "thread painting!"

This class is modeled using techniques from "Doodle Stitching" by Nancy Zieman.  

Supplies required:

Sewing machine with instruction manual plus free motion or darning foot AND standard foot for zig-zag stitch
Needle down feature on machine is very halpful.  Bring extra machine needle 90/14 or 75/11 embroidery needle if you have it or quilting needle same sizes.

Thread you will be using at least 10 different threads to match or enhance the flowers, stems, nest, eggs, and grass.  A variegated green works well for grass and stems.   Two bobbins:  light neutral and dark neutral

Fabric -  Background - 3 pieces 11(height) by 12 1/2 (width)
              Lining - 1 piece 11"x 12 1/2"
              Scraps- 
in preferred colors for nest, bird eggs, stems and flowers.   This is a small project so you will be using some very small pieces.

Interfacing - Fusible craft interfacing - heavyweight (only one side fusible) - 2 pieces 11" x 12 1/2"
                      Light weight double-sided fusible interfacing (paper backed) 1/4 yard (can be scraps)

Iron - small personal iron, ironing pad, and Teflon pressing cloth.

Preparation - If at all possible, please do the following at home prior to class:  cut the craft interfacing to the proper size, attach it to the wrong side of your background fabric according to the manufacturer's instructions then cut out your 2 fabric rectangles.  You will have 2 pieces of background fabric with craft interfacing attached.   Both pieces are 11" x 12 1/2". 

Additional Supplies - Usual sewing supplies including scisoors, seam ripper, glue stick, pencil, pen, removeable fabric marking pens fine point, a few straght pins, etc.

Lunch - bring your own, or, we can order take-out from a variety of local restaurants (Grinder's; Subway; etc.)

Optional - Clear acrylic display frame (8 1/2" x 11")

Instructor Bio:
Cinda teaches Basic Motion Quilting; Quilt 101; Multiple Madness; Thread Painting; Underground Railroad among other sewing classes. She is a life-long sewing enthusiast having completed many projects over the years. She has co-authored the book "Multiple Madness" - available at Anything Sews.
