2022TP: Thread Painting
Thread Painting. Use a combination of thread colors to produce a unique piece of artwork all your own and suitable for framing. Using various colors of thread as your medium, Cinda teaches the simple & fun technique of "thread painting!"
This class is modeled using techniques from "Doodle Stitching" by Nancy Zieman.
Supplies required:
Sewing machine with instruction manual plus free motion or darning foot AND standard foot for zig-zag stitch
Needle down feature on machine is very halpful. Bring extra machine needle 90/14 or 75/11 embroidery needle if you have it or quilting needle same sizes.
Thread - you will be using at least 10 different threads to match or enhance the flowers, stems, nest, eggs, and grass. A variegated green works well for grass and stems. Two bobbins: light neutral and dark neutral
Fabric - Background - 3 pieces 11(height) by 12 1/2 (width)
Lining - 1 piece 11"x 12 1/2"
Scraps- in preferred colors for nest, bird eggs, stems and flowers. This is a small project so you will be using some very small pieces.
Interfacing - Fusible craft interfacing - heavyweight (only one side fusible) - 2 pieces 11" x 12 1/2"
Light weight double-sided fusible interfacing (paper backed) 1/4 yard (can be scraps)
Iron - small personal iron, ironing pad, and Teflon pressing cloth.
Preparation - If at all possible, please do the following at home prior to class: cut the craft interfacing to the proper size, attach it to the wrong side of your background fabric according to the manufacturer's instructions then cut out your 2 fabric rectangles. You will have 2 pieces of background fabric with craft interfacing attached. Both pieces are 11" x 12 1/2".
Additional Supplies - Usual sewing supplies including scisoors, seam ripper, glue stick, pencil, pen, removeable fabric marking pens fine point, a few straght pins, etc.
Lunch - bring your own, or, we can order take-out from a variety of local restaurants (Grinder's; Subway; etc.)
Optional - Clear acrylic display frame (8 1/2" x 11")
